His gallery was chosen by Birmingham Magazine as one of the "Best Things" in Birmingham after only one year in business.
Steadman spent several years traveling through the American West, and visited and lived on ranches in several states, staying as a guest of ranch owners he befriended. During that time, he spent thousands of hours with real cowboys and cowgirls, horsemen, horse trainers, world-champion competitors, Mustang trainers, Rodeo athletes, riding instructors, and others involved in the world of horses. Steadman also attended and photographed 30 Rodeos for a future book project. He also "ran with the hounds" at 30 Fox Hunts in several states, again for a future book project. He also followed other horse sports and met some of the best riders, athletes, and trainers in the world. The photo you see at the right is a Self Portrait by Steadman, with the appearance he had while working with cowboys.

Steadman is an avid sailor who has a passion for offshore ocean sailing. He has sailed from Hawaii to California (30 days), from the Cayman Islands to the Chesapeake (17 days), from the Chesapeake to Newfoundland and cruising Newfoundland's east coast (30 days), and from Florida to Maine (21 days). He has sailed in high winds, high seas, thunderstorms, lightning, and was becalmed for several days 1,000 miles from land. He has sailed next to whales, dolphins, sea turtles, and was visited by a large basking shark. He swam in 18,000 feet of water in mid-Pacific, and has spent many hours enjoying the sea and stars while on night watch.
Steadman has 8,150 nautical miles of offshore ocean sailing experience. In recent years, Steadman has been crew on sailing yachts as large as 52 and 53 feet, for offshore passages. This is in addition to years spent sailing on windy San Francisco Bay as part of competitive race crews on small and large racing yachts, up to 50 foot yachts. He enjoys salt-water fishing offshore and has good success at catching bonito, dorado, cod, and more. His crew mates enjoy his catches which he also cooks.
Steadman enjoys the outdoors and thoroughly enjoys hiking, backpacking and primitive camping. He has backpacked on parts of the Appalachian Trail and solo backpacked in Glacier Bay and Denali Alaska. He has sea kayaked with whales in Alaska, SCUBA dived in Belize and California, Sky Dived, Bungee Jumped from a hot air ballon, River Rafted in Alaska and other states, fly-fished several rivers in the Sierras, mountain biked in the Sierras, and piloted two helicopters. He also enjoys shooting sporting clays. The photo at right shows Steadman at the helm of a 42 foot yacht in heavy fog off the coast of Newfoundland. Sailing close to large icebergs was a real thrill.
Sailing close to large icebergs was a real thrill. The photo above shows Steadman at the helm of a 42 foot yacht in heavy fog off the coast of Newfoundland. The photo at left shows that same yacht, seen from a dinghy that was used to get closer to the iceberg in the background. Sailing close to large icebergs was a real thrill and getting close enough in the dinghy to carve off a chunk of ice was another joy.
